Position Overview:

The Senior Power Electronics Engineer - Application Technical Lead will be instrumental in the integration of variable speed drives into Trane Commercial Systems' HVAC products. This role involves providing technical leadership to the Power Electronics Applications Team and is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all application aspects of power electronic devices for Trane Commercial Products produced in North America, encompassing new product development and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Make recommendations for device selection and sizing, define application specifications, and conduct component-level qualifications.
  • Guide and mentor team members in power electronics applications.
  • Establish standard operating procedures and best practices.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to resolve complex field and factory issues.
  • Participate as an independent reviewer for project and technical design evaluations.
  • Qualify variable frequency drives for Trane Commercial HVAC products.
  • Implement variable speed drives in HVAC systems, focusing on compressors and fans.
  • Integrate unit-level controls and safety features with the drive systems.
  • Optimize cooling solutions for variable frequency drives tailored to specific product requirements.
  • Analyze compatibility between motors and drives, tuning the electrical systems for peak performance.
  • Draft specifications for electrical components within the motor-drive systems.
  • Conduct qualification testing for motor-drive systems.
  • Provide ongoing lifecycle support for products, addressing field and factory challenges.
  • Willingness to travel overnight, approximately 5-10% of the time.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of experience in variable frequency drive applications.
  • A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering is advantageous.

The annual compensation range for this position is $78,000 to $143,000, reflecting national averages in the U.S. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, merit, and geographic location.
