The Senior Power Electronics Engineer - Application Technical Lead is tasked with the integration of variable speed drives into Trane Commercial Systems' HVAC products while providing technical guidance to the Power Electronics Applications Team. This role supports a Hybrid work arrangement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all application-related aspects for power electronic devices utilized in Trane Commercial Products manufactured in North America, encompassing new product development and lifecycle management.
- Make recommendations for device selection and sizing, define application specifications, and conduct both component and system-level qualifications.
- Mentor and onboard team members in power electronics applications.
- Establish standard operating procedures, processes, and best practices.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to resolve complex field and factory issues.
- Conduct independent reviews for project designs and technical evaluations.
- Qualify Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for use in Trane Commercial HVAC solutions.
- Apply variable speed drives to HVAC systems, particularly for compressors and fans.
- Integrate unit-level controls and safety features with the drive systems.
- Optimize VFD cooling tailored to specific product requirements.
- Analyze compatibility between motors and drives, tuning the electrical systems for peak performance.
- Draft specifications for electrical components within the motor-drive assembly.
- Perform qualification testing on the motor-drive systems.
- Provide ongoing lifecycle support for products, addressing field and factory challenges.
- Willingness to travel overnight, approximately 5-10% of the time.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of experience in variable frequency drive applications is required.
- A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering is advantageous.
- Proficient understanding of power electronics and variable speed drive applications.
- Collaborate effectively within a multi-functional development team to achieve program objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team with cross-functional or global groups.
- Capacity for rapid learning and adaptation.
Annual Compensation Range is $78,000 to $143,000. This range is based on national averages in the US. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, merit, and geographic location.
