Position Summary
The Regional Industrial Engineer (RIE) will collaborate closely with all North American facilities to spearhead initiatives that align with Sun Gro's objectives for growth, modernization, standardization, and operational enhancements. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic change leader, adept at working collaboratively across various employee levels with diverse educational and professional backgrounds. Frequent travel to various Sun Gro facilities will be required to identify and implement impactful projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, manage, and execute improvement initiatives within the designated region.
  • Collaborate with plant management to assess, implement, and oversee capital projects.
  • Ensure capital project expenditures are managed effectively, meeting timelines and budgetary constraints.
  • Design and draft layouts for equipment, materials, and workspaces to optimize efficiency.
  • Analyze budgets, production schedules, and engineering specifications to gain insights into manufacturing processes.
  • Facilitate the implementation of a standardized CMMS program across all Sun Gro locations.
  • Utilize continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methodologies within the Sun Gro Operations Model for Excellence (SOME).
  • Apply statistical analysis and mathematical calculations to optimize manufacturing processes and staffing needs.
  • Engage with plant personnel to map and enhance peat processing workflows, identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Consult with vendors and management regarding procurement, specifications, and project progress.
  • Develop production and design standards in collaboration with operators and management.
  • Establish manufacturing methods and labor utilization standards to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Recommend and implement strategies for optimizing personnel, material, and utility usage.
  • Plan and coordinate operations from peat harvesting to shipping to maximize asset utilization.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the business.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering is preferred.
  • PMP certification is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a fast-paced, high-mix manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing projects with budgets exceeding $1M.
  • Hands-on approach with a proactive attitude towards project completion.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D modeling software, such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Experience with PLCs and electrical systems is advantageous.
  • Strong change management skills with a proven ability to gain employee buy-in.
  • Excellent communication skills, both concise and adaptable.
  • Ability to connect process improvements to positive financial outcomes.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented with the capability to simplify complex issues for effective communication.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% within the region for project installations.
  • Occasional travel to other regions may be required.
  • Ability to lift up to 25Kg.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
