Currently, Argo Group US has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Underwriter. The primary objective of this role is to engage actively in the underwriting, marketing, and processing of Accountants Professional Liability (APL) lines of business. Additional responsibilities may encompass involvement in special projects and mentoring junior staff members. This position is classified as a professional level role within Argo Pro.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and underwrite new business and renewal applications for our Accountants Professional Liability (APL) division.
  • Ensure the success of our marketing strategies and maintain consistent communication regarding our products and services with retail and wholesale brokers.
  • Enhance existing broker relationships and forge new connections in targeted regions to attract business opportunities.
  • Actively engage in meetings with clients and brokers.
  • Develop and sustain a submission pipeline to meet overall production and business mix goals.
  • Utilize market contacts to generate business, gather and disseminate market intelligence, and cross-sell Argo Pro and other Argo Group offerings.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • A strong commitment to ongoing skill enhancement through continuing education and self-improvement.
  • Prior educational experience in insurance, with IIA and CPCU designations highly preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of underwriting experience with authority, particularly in professional liability lines.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for not only meeting but exceeding customer expectations in every interaction.
  • Proven ability to cultivate robust and productive relationships with professional liability specialist brokers in the Central U.S. market.
  • Demonstrated strong negotiation skills, achieving favorable outcomes in collaborative negotiations.
  • Adaptability and the capacity to thrive amidst change are essential for success in this role.
  • A strong focus on execution and delivering results consistently.
  • Exceptional ability to collect, analyze, and interpret detailed information to make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Advanced proficiency in computer applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time.
