Underwriter - Employment Practices Liability

Tokio Marine HCC - Cyber and Professional Lines Group is seeking a driven, analytical, and relationship-oriented underwriter to enhance our Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) underwriting division. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to analytical and systematic underwriting while prioritizing client service and relationship management. Each day presents unique challenges as the underwriter's responsibilities encompass various industry sectors and revenue scales.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid model with three days per week in the Chicago office.

Position Summary

This role is focused on market-facing production underwriting within a close-knit team of motivated professionals. Responsibilities include underwriting both new and renewal business while cultivating relationships with key clients to meet shared objectives. The successful candidate will operate independently, know when to seek guidance, advocate for positive changes, and excel in a dynamic work environment.

Performance Goals

Production - Meet individual premium and production targets, including managing and underwriting your renewal portfolio, achieving a target renewal retention ratio, and servicing renewals throughout the year.

New business premium objectives, quoting, and workflow management targets.

Marketing & Relationship Management - Responsible for promoting our products and proactively nurturing positive relationships with key clients.

Profitability and Compliance - Profitability is a core objective; developing a profitable book of business requires disciplined adherence to underwriting authority, guidelines, and compliance directives.

Collaboration/Teamwork - Success in this role necessitates teamwork to achieve collective goals, which involves collaboration with peers and other business units such as claims, product development, accounting, and operations.

Underwriting Expertise - Continuous development of underwriting expertise is encouraged through on-the-job learning and support from the organization, contributing to both team value and personal growth.

Qualifications & Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Two to four years of relevant underwriting experience in Employment Practices Liability or a related area.
  • Consideration will also be given to candidates with less direct underwriting experience if their current role supports another E&S product.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Progress towards obtaining a Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), or equivalent insurance designation based on specialty area.

Travel Requirements

• May involve travel outside of the primary work location up to 10% of the time, both locally and out of state.
