OVERVIEW:

The Washington Migrant and Asylum-Seeker Support Project, known as the WA MASS Project, is an initiative from the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services' (DSHS) Office of Refugee and Immigrant Assistance (ORIA). The project aims to establish a statewide network of organizations to address the specific and immediate needs of newly arrived migrants and asylum seekers.

As a pivotal role, the Coordinator of Asylum Services will possess a deep understanding of the experiences of asylum seekers, including their migration journeys and the challenges they encounter in accessing protection and services. This position will oversee the provision of integrated resource navigation and referrals for recently arrived asylum seekers and other eligible migrants in Washington State.

The Coordinator will manage the implementation of a customized intake, assessment, and emergency triage process to evaluate eligibility and referral pathways for asylum seekers. They will supervise Asylum Services Navigators, providing onboarding, training, case consultation, and overall guidance. Additionally, they will collaborate with the data team to assist in report compilation.

Working alongside the Senior Asylum Services Program, the Coordinator will lead a team focused on developing a humanitarian reception system for asylum seekers in Washington State that is data-driven, protection-centered, and responsive to client needs.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Oversee the implementation of an intake, assessment, and emergency triage tool to determine eligibility and referral pathways for asylum seekers.
  2. Manage daily intake, assessment, emergency triage, and resource navigation activities, including supervising Asylum Services Navigators.
  3. Provide training, supervision, and support for Asylum Services Navigators.
  4. Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) for effective program delivery and a safe environment for clients, staff, and volunteers.
  5. Protect and monitor program data to support ongoing quality improvement and donor reporting.
  6. Assist the Sector Manager in contract management as needed.
  7. Share best practices in humanitarian reception through external networks to enhance the quality of services throughout Washington State.
  8. Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of the U.S. immigration system, particularly the asylum process, and a commitment to the rights of immigrant communities.
  • Experience in program management, including staff oversight, program development, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with limited-English speakers in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong cross-cultural understanding and communication skills.
  • Highly organized self-starter with proven success in prioritizing tasks and making critical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and effective time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and desktop publishing.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree required; 3-4 years of relevant experience preferred.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bilingual ability in relevant Washington State refugee/immigrant languages preferred.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position operates in a hybrid setting with minimal hazards, and the work schedule is stable.
