Afterschool Program Coordinator
Compensation: $17.00+ per hour based on experience
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 1 pm - 6 pm, plus an additional hour for weekly meetings, totaling 26 hours per week
Perks: Complimentary YMCA staff membership
The YMCA of Rapid City is on the lookout for a dedicated and skilled educator to take on the role of Afterschool Program Coordinator for our Kidstop initiative. This position is vital in furthering our mission to enhance community well-being through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As a prominent nonprofit entity, the YMCA is committed to fostering a secure and supportive atmosphere where children can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, and we seek a Coordinator who embodies this dedication.
In the capacity of the Kidstop Program Coordinator, you will oversee the daily functions of our afterschool program, ensuring it is of high quality and developmentally suitable. Your primary objective will be to cultivate a fun, safe, and engaging space where children can acquire essential soft skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and creativity. These competencies are crucial not only for their academic achievements but also for their holistic development as individuals. In this role, you will implement a curriculum tailored to their age group that promotes these values while safeguarding the physical and emotional well-being of every child entrusted to your care.
Your duties will encompass conducting both formal and informal assessments of Kidstop staff, ensuring that each team member meets their performance goals. You will also play a significant role in recognizing the accomplishments of your team, whether through formal recognition or informal encouragement, to sustain a positive and motivated workforce. Establishing and nurturing strong relationships with school principals, educators, and other administrative personnel is another essential aspect of this position. Your ability to collaborate effectively with school staff will be instrumental in ensuring the success of the Kidstop program and its alignment with the broader educational objectives of the institutions we serve.
In addition to your collaboration with school personnel, you will maintain open and positive communication with parents, keeping them informed about their child's progress and the activities available in the program. You will ensure that all program materials, equipment, and supplies are well-maintained and utilized appropriately, adhering to YMCA safety standards and relevant regulations. Accurate record-keeping is also a critical component of this role, and you will be expected to maintain organized and up-to-date attendance records, lesson plans, and any necessary reports regarding incidents or accidents.
This position calls for a proactive and detail-oriented individual capable of connecting meaningfully with both children and adults. You will be expected to attend and actively engage in weekly meetings with the Kidstop Site Coordinator and OST Coordinator to ensure you are well-informed and prepared to relay important information to your team. Your role will also involve interacting with YMCA members and program participants, contributing to the overall membership objectives of the organization by exemplifying the values of friendliness, courtesy, and community spirit.
The ideal candidate for this role will possess teaching experience and a robust background in working with children in a comparable environment. You should thrive in a dynamic and collaborative setting, with a genuine passion for positively impacting the lives of young individuals. As the Afterschool Program Coordinator, you will be a pivotal leader within the YMCA community, responsible for ensuring that our afterschool program not only meets but surpasses the expectations of the families we serve.
If you are dedicated to the YMCA's mission and eager to embrace a role that allows you to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children, we encourage you to consider this opportunity to join a team that is effecting real change in the Rapid City community, and we are looking for someone who is ready to lead with enthusiasm, integrity, and a profound commitment to the YMCA's values.
