Purpose of the Child Care Program
The YWCA Childcare Programs aim to offer a high-quality, affordable childcare solution for parents with children aged 3-12. These programs ensure a safe, nurturing, and engaging atmosphere for children.
Role Overview
The Child Care Program Coordinator operates under the guidance of the Program Director and/or the Assistant Program Director. This individual exemplifies the mission and values of the YWCA and is tasked with aiding in the development, execution, oversight, and assessment of a specific childcare site. Work hours align with the local school district's calendar.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should possess relevant experience and educational qualifications in organizing group activities and planning daily programs. An understanding of the developmental stages of children (K-5) and the ability to address their needs is essential. Strong oral and written communication skills, along with organizational abilities, are necessary. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have completed high school or an equivalent program, and fulfill the licensing requirements set by the Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services, which includes 80 full-time or 120 part-time days of experience. CPR and AED certifications are mandatory.
Additional Requirements
For the Site Supervisor role: A Registry level of 10 is required, with 6 credits in supervision or financial management coursework. For the Group Leader position: A Registry level of 7 or higher is necessary.
Key Responsibilities
Personnel Management
- Notify the Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director of any issues that arise.
- Deliver programs in a positive, safe, and supportive environment that aligns with the Child Care Programs' objectives.
- Adhere to school policies and regulations.
- Maintain punctuality and reliability in attendance.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Follow all state licensing regulations and guidelines from the Department of Public Instruction.
- Complete necessary training on Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention.
- Maintain daily attendance records and ensure the safety of all children.
- Adhere to mandatory child abuse reporting laws and complete training biannually.
- Establish clear rules and expectations to ensure child safety and appropriate behavior.
- Familiarize oneself with all pertinent information in each child's file.
- Ensure proper hygiene and cleanliness in the program space.
Communication Skills
- Exhibit enthusiasm, warmth, and approachability.
- Demonstrate follow-through on requests and information from support staff.
- Regularly check site voicemail and maintain a communication log.
- Engage with school personnel, especially principals and custodial staff.
- Welcome parents and children daily.
- Distribute necessary information to parents as required.
Program Development
- Interact positively with children and adults, fostering respect and trust.
- Incorporate activities that reflect the diverse populations served.
- Create an environment that accommodates a variety of activities and interests.
- Supervise and engage with children to support their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Ensure adherence to Child Guidance policies.
- Organize the program room with at least five distinct interest areas.
Record Keeping
- Verify accuracy on time sheets for self and staff, submitting them promptly.
- Document daily snack counts and make necessary menu adjustments.
- Maintain accurate attendance records for children.
- Ensure all essential paperwork and materials are available during program hours.
Additional Duties
- Provide documentation of required continuing education.
- Apply to The Registry within one month of employment.
- Responsible for site opening and closing procedures.
- Maintain adequate supplies at the site.
- Attend staff meetings and continuing education sessions as mandated.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Site Administration Responsibilities
- Conduct annual program assessments and develop quality improvement plans.
- Review quality improvement plans biannually.
- Complete child assessments twice a year.
- Train and supervise assistants and new staff on-site.
- Develop and implement daily lesson plans with team assistance.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, child files, and schedules.
- Handle all site bookkeeping responsibilities.
