Child Care Support Specialist

Position Overview
The Child Care Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering engaging and age-appropriate activities for children aged 5-12. This position is vital in fostering a nurturing and secure environment, aligning with the mission of YWCA Rock County.
Key Responsibilities
1. Familiarize yourself with daily operational protocols and assist in ensuring that all tasks are executed efficiently (including attendance, communication management, snack organization, activity planning, child supervision, and maintaining cleanliness).
2. Encourage children’s growth across physical, social, emotional, and intellectual domains; ensure that the program space is safe, tidy, and conducive to both active and quiet activities.
3. Maintain constructive interactions with children and parents, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere.
4. Deliver programming in a safe, supportive, and caring environment, in line with the objectives of the Child Care Program.
5. Cultivate an environment that accommodates a variety of interests and activities; uphold school policies and site regulations while employing positive behavior management techniques.
6. Review weekly notes and maintain the communication log.
7. Ensure compliance with YWCA Child Care Program licensing requirements and adhere to state regulations and training guidelines.
8. Participate in organizing and maintaining the storage area for program materials.
9. Contribute to the lesson planning process.
10. Assist in coordinating two family engagement events annually (such as open houses, conferences, talent showcases, etc.).
11. Attend staff meetings and departmental gatherings as required.
12. Stay informed about YWCA's goals, mission, and program offerings.
13. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; a degree in child development is preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience in child care settings.
- Completion of 10 hours of training in the care of school-age children or a willingness to complete this training within six months of hire.
- Current CPR and AED certification.
- Ability to create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for children.
- Strong attention to detail, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Capacity to foster teamwork among staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; warm, enthusiastic, and approachable demeanor.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Sound judgment in decision-making, with a collaborative approach to benefit the organization.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time position with morning and afternoon shifts, primarily during weekdays, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.
Compensation
This role is classified as non-exempt and offers part-time benefits for those working 20 or more hours per week.
