Position Overview

Pima County is in search of a proficient project manager to lead capital improvement initiatives of varying scopes and complexities. This role entails managing projects from the initial design phase through to construction completion, operating across diverse environments. The project manager will oversee a wide array of projects, ranging from minor local enhancements to extensive phased upgrades. The primary goal is to improve the quality of life within the County while ensuring fiscal responsibility as custodians of public funds.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will collaborate with multiple districts within the County to maintain project budgets effectively. Responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing projects from design to completion.
  • Managing contracts with designers, engineers, contractors, and sub-consultants.
  • Coordinating with County departments to ensure projects adhere to specified requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with County standards and procedures by all involved parties.
  • Providing accurate and ongoing reporting and forecasting throughout each project's lifecycle.

Essential Duties

Work assignments may vary based on departmental needs. Duties include:
  • Developing program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Administering program activities and evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Managing professional staff and assessing their performance.
  • Negotiating and administering contracts and agreements.
  • Monitoring compliance with program contracts and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Representing the program within the community and participating in awareness activities.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with other County departments and external organizations.
  • Analyzing legislation to ensure program compliance.
  • Conducting organizational studies to identify issues and propose solutions.
  • Preparing and managing the program's annual budget and financial forecasts.
  • Reviewing reports on program status and success, and initiating corrective actions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, business management, or a related field, along with professional registration in an engineering or architectural discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Specific experience in your application is encouraged. Preferred qualifications include:
  1. A degree in a relevant field and professional registration.
  2. At least five years of experience managing contractors on large-scale projects.
  3. Experience interpreting construction plans and specifications.
  4. Recent experience with project tracking and reporting software.

Licenses and Certificates

A valid driver's license is required at the time of application. The successful candidate will undergo a review of their driving record to determine suitability for operating County vehicles.
