The Pre-Analytical Operations Supervisor is responsible for managing the intake and accessioning processes of specimens received at the CareDx clinical laboratory. This role entails overseeing laboratory personnel involved in specimen handling, ensuring adherence to training protocols and standard operating procedures. The Supervisor will also engage in specimen accessioning up to 50% of the time, particularly during peak operational periods and staff shortages. Acting as a key liaison, this position will facilitate communication between the specimen handling team, customer service, and the Clinical Operations group to ensure seamless specimen tracking and receipt.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Laboratory Support team.
  • Manage staffing and scheduling to ensure optimal accessioning and laboratory support, providing assistance during high-volume periods.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental objectives and standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with laboratory management to recruit and train new staff on accessioning and laboratory support functions.
  • Work closely with Clinical Operations to coordinate sample logistics and monitor incoming specimens for various studies.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs) for specimen intake and accessioning.
  • Address employee-related issues concerning accessioning and laboratory support, working with supervisors and management to find resolutions.
  • Contribute to performance evaluations for accessioning personnel.
  • Establish and monitor quality and operational metrics, presenting findings at regular operations and quality meetings, and recommending process enhancements.
  • Investigate accessioning discrepancies and manage corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory standards.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments, with experience in leading initiatives to enhance process efficiency.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and quality systems related to specimen management.
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in a CLIA-accredited laboratory, showcasing strong leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office, with the ability to track key metrics and generate reports.
  • Proven track record of meeting goals in a timely manner.
