The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) is responsible for conducting tests within our CLIA-certified laboratory. This role involves engaging in quality control, assurance, and troubleshooting tasks. Under the general supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Manager (CLM) or their delegate, the CLS is expected to independently manage their workload, determine methodologies, and assist in prioritizing tasks and deadlines. The CLM or their delegate will review completed work to ensure that expected outcomes are achieved.

Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 9am - 5:30pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and analyze patient samples, interpret test results, prepare documentation, and maintain accurate records.
  • May be required to input samples into the laboratory information management system (LIMS) to enhance sample processing efficiency.
  • Adhere to CareDx quality control protocols and meticulously document quality control activities, including instrument calibrations and maintenance.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of personal health information (PHI) is maintained at all times.
  • Identify and resolve issues that may impact test performance or results, escalating to the appropriate personnel when necessary.
  • Recognize test systems that do not meet performance standards and implement corrective actions in accordance with established procedures.
  • Document all corrective measures taken in response to deviations from performance specifications.
  • Provide training on CareDx policies and procedures to new staff; may conduct in-service training and competency assessments.
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures for tasks where proficiency has been established.
  • Represent the reference laboratory's testing, quality control, and assurance initiatives in collaboration with other departments.
  • Assist the CLM in investigating proficiency testing and quality control results that do not meet established standards.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities and projects as assigned by the Clinical Laboratory Manager.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of CareDx, adhering to all operational policies and ethical standards.
  • Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations governing clinical laboratory operations.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license.
  • Bachelor's degree in a biology-related field.
  • 1-6 years of experience in high-complexity testing within a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience with databases and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to foster effective working relationships with colleagues, customers, and vendors.
  • Experience with molecular testing techniques (PCR, real-time PCR, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Background in immunology, microbiology, or related disciplines is preferred.
  • Understanding of complex disease treatment algorithms is highly valued.

Career Advancement:

  • CLS, I: Meets all qualifications with 0-2 years of licensed clinical laboratory experience.
  • CLS, II: Meets all qualifications with 3-5 years of licensed clinical laboratory experience.
  • CLS, III: Meets all qualifications with 6+ years of licensed experience.
  • Lead: Meets all qualifications with a minimum of 2 years of licensed clinical laboratory experience, demonstrating knowledge of workflow efficiency and strong communication with lab leadership.
  • Supervisor: Meets all qualifications with at least 3 years of licensed experience and 1-2 years of leadership experience preferred.
