Role SummaryThe Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) operates within our CLIA-certified laboratory, engaging in quality control, assurance, and troubleshooting processes. Under the general guidance of the Clinical Laboratory Manager (CLM) or their delegate, the CLS is responsible for organizing and executing their tasks, adhering to the policies and objectives set forth by the management. The CLS is expected to independently plan their workload, establish work methods, and prioritize tasks effectively. The CLM or designee will review completed work to ensure expected outcomes are met.
Work ScheduleTuesday - Saturday, 9am - 5:30pm
Key Responsibilities- Process and analyze patient samples, compile test results, and maintain comprehensive records.
- May involve entering samples into the laboratory information management system (LIMS) to enhance sample processing efficiency.
- Adhere to CareDx's quality control standards and document all quality control activities, including instrument calibrations and maintenance.
- Ensure the confidentiality of personal health information (PHI) is maintained.
- Identify and resolve issues affecting test performance or results, escalating concerns to the appropriate supervisory personnel when necessary.
- Recognize test systems that do not meet performance specifications and implement corrective actions as per established protocols.
- Document any corrective measures taken when test systems deviate from expected performance standards.
- Provide training on CareDx policies and procedures to new staff; may conduct in-service training and competency assessments.
- Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures for tasks where proficiency has been demonstrated.
- Represent the Reference lab's testing, quality control, and assurance initiatives in collaborations with other departments.
- Assist the CLM in investigating proficiency testing and quality control results that do not meet established standards.
- Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned by the Clinical Laboratory Manager.
- Exhibit knowledge of and support for CareDx's mission, vision, values, standards, policies, and ethical practices.
- Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations governing clinical laboratory operations.
- Possession of a California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license.
- Bachelor's degree in a biology-related field.
- 1-6 years of experience in high-complexity testing within a clinical laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Strong analytical skills, including experience with databases and Excel.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Able to foster effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels, as well as with clients and vendors.
- Demonstrated expertise in molecular testing techniques (PCR, real-time PCR, etc.) is highly desirable.
- Experience in immunology, microbiology, or related disciplines is preferred.
- Understanding of complex disease treatment algorithms is highly valued.
- CLS, I: Meets all qualifications listed above, with 0-2 years of licensed clinical laboratory experience.
- CLS, II: Meets all qualifications listed above, with 3-5 years of licensed clinical laboratory experience.
- CLS, III: Meets all qualifications listed above, with 6+ years of licensed experience.
- Lead: Meets all qualifications listed above, with a minimum of 2 years of licensed clinical laboratory experience and knowledge of workflow efficiency.
- Supervisor: Meets all qualifications listed above, with at least 3 years of licensed experience and 1-2 years of leadership experience preferred.
