Vice President of Fundraising

The Urban Resource Institute (URI) is a forward-thinking and esteemed organization established in 1980, dedicated to transforming the lives of individuals affected by domestic violence and families experiencing homelessness. URI provides secure shelter and a wide range of comprehensive services, while also implementing prevention and intervention initiatives aimed at breaking the cycles of violence and poverty. As the oldest licensed provider of domestic violence shelter and services in New York State, URI stands as the largest provider of such services in the United States, and is recognized as a leading organization for shelter and services for homeless families. URI is deeply committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion among its leadership, staff, and clients across various sites in New York City.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Vice President of Fundraising at URI is a crucial position that reports directly to the Chief Development & Marketing Officer. This role is instrumental in executing URI's fundraising strategy, with a particular focus on Corporate Giving. The VP will oversee the development team while also engaging in the cultivation of new donor relationships.
Successful candidates will exhibit exceptional management capabilities, a talent for mentoring team members, strong interpersonal skills, and a proven track record in relationship development and cross-organizational collaboration. The ideal individual will have experience in building a robust private fundraising program and a history of securing new donors. The VP will supervise a team of four fundraisers and share responsibilities with an Administrative Assistant.
Salary: $150,000 - $160,000
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Management
- Oversees the Development team; mentors and develops team members.
- Collaborates with the CDMO to formulate fundraising strategies in partnership with the team.
- Participates in the URI Senior Management team, contributing to organizational objectives.
- Works alongside URI program leaders to effectively represent URI's initiatives.
- Encourages a culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- In collaboration with the CDMO, responsible for developing strategic initiatives.
- Leads efforts in establishing and nurturing new donor relationships, particularly for the Economic Empowerment Program.
- Maintains an active pipeline of prospects aligned with organizational goals.
- Supports the initiation of the Corporate and Community Partners program.
- Directs Corporate Brand Partnership Campaigns.
- Ensures the development of a compelling case for support in key fundraising areas.
- Supervises development staff in crafting proposals and reports, providing guidance and feedback.
- Utilizes CRM systems to manage relationships, track reports, and oversee prospect management.
- Ensures a comprehensive pipeline of vetted prospects and an engagement strategy for all donors.
- Promotes stewardship with funders through tailored communication.
- Oversees CRM management and optimization.
- Ensures timely and accurate acknowledgment of donor contributions.
- Completes additional duties as assigned by the CDMO.
- Bachelor's Degree Required.
- A minimum of ten years in institutional fundraising, with familiarity in the New York fundraising landscape, including corporate and foundation fundraising.
- Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- May require occasional work outside of standard hours, including evenings.
- A strong passion for URI's mission and core values.
- A proven record of successfully prospecting, cultivating, and securing donations.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills, capable of engaging and inspiring diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and nurture donor relationships.
- Ability to collaborate with various departments in a professional and respectful manner.
- Capacity to work independently while seeking guidance as necessary from supervisors.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
- Proficient in multitasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, etc.
- Works in a well-lit and ventilated office environment.
- May require extended periods of sitting and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally and perform reaching and bending tasks.
