Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant I to join our team at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV). As an Accountant I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of accounting tasks, including data entry, financial record-keeping, and cash handling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed assignments in recording, classifying, examining, and verifying financial records, documents, or reports.
  • Enter data into agency accounting systems, including CAPPS and USAS.
  • Specialize in accounting work related to cash handling, preparing deposits, and performing reconciliations on revenue transactions.
  • Provide effective and efficient customer service in a professional manner to agency employees and managers.
  • Compile and distribute accounting reports and spreadsheets pertaining to online credit card transactions, cash receipts, and refunds of revenue.
  • Verify and distribute warrants for payroll and vendors in accordance with agency and state requirements.
  • Assist with tracking reimbursements and invoices to ensure payments are made in a timely manner.
  • Maintain, scan, and secure files and accounting documents.
  • May audit vouchers, claims, invoices, requisitions, purchase orders, statements, and similar records and reports.
  • May classify, code, and enter financial vendor and payment information in CAPPS, USAS, and TINS.
Requirements
  • Familiarity with accounting and financial operations.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent plus two (2) years' experience in general office administration or cash handling work.
  • Six to twelve hours of college coursework in accounting is preferred.
  • Education and experience may be substituted for each other on a year for year basis.
