Position Purpose

The Resident Support Services Specialist will play a crucial role in the implementation and coordination of programs aimed at empowering residents to develop essential life skills, establish personal objectives, and maintain housing stability. This position will also facilitate connections and referrals to services that enhance residents' housing security.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver supportive services to address challenges and barriers hindering residents' progress towards their goals.
  • Manage tenant rosters to accurately reflect entry and exit data for relevant properties.
  • Identify warning signs of potential crises and respond appropriately.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and reporting as required.
  • Track resident participation in services and monitor progress towards individual goals.
  • Produce monthly newsletters detailing available social and supportive services, including a calendar of events.
  • Stay informed about off-site services and programs, providing referrals as necessary.
  • Advocate for residents and provide onsite case management services as needed.
  • Conduct intake assessments and orientations for new residents.
  • Foster effective relationships and coordinate services among community supports, service providers, and property management.
  • Encourage a positive environment for residents and promote community involvement.
  • Facilitate daily Adult Education workshops and groups for residents.
  • Organize and coordinate annual Health and Wellness events and community-building activities.
  • Accurately input data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) in a timely manner.
  • Provide onsite training in life skills to residents.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be over 21 years of age.
  • Experience working with individuals facing chronic homelessness and mental health challenges.
  • Familiarity with Housing First, Harm Reduction, and/or Recovery-Oriented service models.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries while fostering relationships with residents.
  • Experience interacting within a culturally diverse community.
  • AA degree preferred or equivalent experience in serving homeless individuals.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of independent living skills such as cooking, budgeting, and housekeeping.
  • Valid California driver's license and access to an insured vehicle.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends and travel as required.
Physical Requirements

The Resident Support Services Specialist must possess the ability to communicate effectively and perform various physical tasks, including sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and lifting up to 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Work Environment

This role involves working with individuals experiencing homelessness in various settings, including streets and shelters. The environment may present challenges such as exposure to unpleasant odors or conditions associated with homelessness and mental health issues. The noise level may vary based on the activities taking place.
