Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in delivering support services to a diverse population of individuals and families residing in a cluster of formerly public housing. This role operates within a trauma-informed care framework, applying best practices to enhance the quality of life for residents by recognizing the significance of the social environment and community.

This position is tasked with the planning and execution of ongoing onsite programs, which include health and wellness initiatives, educational workshops, cultural events, and community organizing efforts. The Coordinator will also provide essential information and referrals to residents requiring advanced care coordination, utilizing clinical techniques such as de-escalation and motivational interviewing. Building partnerships with external service providers to introduce new resources and ideas to residents is also a key responsibility, along with supporting residents in their housing stabilization efforts.

Employment Status: Full-time, Nonexempt

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends

Compensation: Competitive hourly wage with comprehensive benefits

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct services, including general information, referrals, and light case management to an increasingly diverse population.
  • Organize and implement educational, social, and recreational activities, ensuring they meet the needs of residents.
  • Collaborate with onsite staff and other departments to enhance service delivery.
  • Maintain relationships with social service agencies to expand programming opportunities.
  • Provide support to residents facing housing stability challenges, including assistance with rental applications.
  • Gather and report data for compliance with city mandates.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to engage with individuals from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in community organizing and resident engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related field with two years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma with five years of experience in direct service roles.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese is preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults and individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of local resources and public benefits.
  • Experience in public housing or supportive housing environments.
  • Familiarity with harm reduction models and community resources.
