Key Responsibilities: The role involves supporting the effective operation of the San Diego County Peer-Run Support Warmline, which operates daily from 3:30 PM to 11:00 PM. This position is remote, necessitating internet access and a laptop. Responsibilities include answering live calls, returning voice messages promptly, gathering and inputting demographic data, documenting interactions in a database, and offering suitable resources. The specialist will also be responsible for training, mentoring, and serving as a role model for peers who may volunteer on the support line. Workload: Up to 12 hours per week, during the hours of 3:30 PM to 11:00 PM, seven days a week.


Specific Duties:

  • Responding to live calls using a peer support methodology.
  • Timely follow-up on voicemails.
  • Collecting and entering demographic data.
  • Recording calls in the database.
  • Providing relevant resources.
  • Employing recovery-oriented language.
  • Guiding and mentoring new peers and volunteers.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Warmline Program Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • Must reside in California for this remote role.
  • Completion of a Peer Support Specialist training program or two years of supervised experience in peer support within the public behavioral health sector.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to connect with peers through active listening and problem-solving strategies.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, time management skills, and understanding of personal and professional boundaries.
  • Proven experience working with diverse populations and a desire to collaborate within a team environment.
  • Advanced technological skills, including proficiency in computer applications, cloud-based phone systems, and web-based platforms like Zoom and Teams. Competency in data entry and Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Able to mentor fellow team members with enthusiasm.
  • Understanding of professional boundaries and confidentiality standards.
  • Self-identified as a Peer with a grounded personal recovery experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
  • Familiarity with San Diego County's mental health services and current social services available in the region.
  • Reliable internet access and consistent attendance.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
