Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Administrative Services Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing the daily maintenance operations of designated buildings and facilities. The Facilities Operations Supervisor directs the execution of construction and maintenance projects through effective coordination and supervision of assigned personnel, while also providing oversight of contracted services. The position emphasizes a commitment to high-quality customer service, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in maintenance activities. A positive, energetic, and collaborative workplace culture is fostered within the team.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with the Administrative Services Manager to plan, develop, and assess maintenance, repair, and construction initiatives, focusing on staffing, scheduling, service scope, and budget management.
  2. Manage and coordinate the work of maintenance staff, including training, mentoring, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
  3. Oversee the quality and efficiency of work performed by employees and contractors, recommending improvements to enhance maintenance processes.
  4. Ensure that all equipment is maintained in optimal condition, addressing repair requests promptly and performing emergency repairs as necessary.
  5. Conduct daily administrative tasks, including reviewing time sheets, invoices, and service requests.
  6. Engage with vendors for quotes and follow up on repair and purchase statuses.
  7. Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for buildings and equipment, ensuring accurate recordkeeping.
  8. Maintain effective communication with maintenance staff to facilitate a collaborative work environment.
  9. Implement approved policies and procedures, suggesting improvements to enhance organizational effectiveness.
  10. Promote exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries and resolving issues in a professional manner.
  11. Support the Administrative Services Manager in recommending purchases for maintenance supplies and equipment.
  12. Participate in personnel management responsibilities, including recruitment and performance management, in coordination with the Human Resources Department.
  13. Review and approve maintenance invoices for accuracy and assist in the budgeting process as needed.
  14. Ensure safety and cleanliness in the maintenance shop and other workspaces.
  15. Contribute to a safe environment for employees and the public through diligent maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  16. Operate County vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
  17. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; specialized training in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry, or construction is preferred.
  • Four to six years of experience in building trades, with supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong supervisory skills to effectively manage daily operations.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and the safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and work effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills to mentor and lead staff.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
  • Valid Michigan driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Working Conditions

  • Occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to noise, fumes, and dust.
  • Physical ability to lift items weighing up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
  • Travel between County locations may be required.
  • Extended work hours may be necessary.
  • On-call availability for emergencies and meetings is required.
