Role Summary

The Financial Project Specialist will oversee the financial dimensions of engineering and construction initiatives. This position requires close collaboration with project managers, engineers, and various stakeholders to guarantee precise financial reporting, budgeting, and cost management throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight:

  • Examine contracts and complete compliant project initiation documentation.
  • Track project expenditures and costs, ensuring they align with approved budgets.
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition across a portfolio of projects.
  • Manage project-related financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable.
  • Compile and analyze monthly financial reports, identifying discrepancies and potential concerns.

Invoicing and Billing:

  • Generate and dispatch project invoices to clients promptly.
  • Reconcile project accounts, ensuring all billable items are accurately recorded.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors for precise and timely invoicing.
  • Follow up on outstanding invoices and resolve any billing issues.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work alongside project managers to provide financial insights and support project-related decision-making.
  • Communicate financial performance, risks, and opportunities to senior management.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development/Marketing team for cost estimates and contract evaluations.
  • Assist the Corporate Controller during project audits.

Process Enhancement:

  • Continuously assess and refine project accounting processes and systems.
  • Implement best practices in project financial management.
  • Provide training and support to project teams regarding financial procedures and policies.
Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in project accounting or financial management, particularly within the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction sectors.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with California Prevailing Wage regulations.
  • Familiarity with Caltrans invoicing processes.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (Deltek preferred).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Expertise in Excel.
