Human Resources Specialist

This role is designed for an experienced Human Resources Specialist who will play a vital part in supporting the HR functions for a large department. The incumbent will work under the guidance of the Deputy Director of Human Resources, ensuring that the HR needs of over 290 employees are met effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources Management (60%):
- Provide expert advice to management and staff on the interpretation and application of personnel laws, regulations, and policies.
- Oversee the management of employee leave processes, including Family Medical Leave (FMLA) and worker's compensation, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Generate and distribute monthly HR reports to department leaders, and compile data for compliance logs as required.
- Facilitate the annual contract renewal process and manage HR transactions within the HR management system.
- Ensure that all employee licenses and certifications are tracked and maintained accurately.
- Conduct employment verification for current and former staff members.
- Maintain comprehensive personnel and medical records.
Payroll and Timekeeping (25%):
- Interpret and enforce timekeeping policies, providing guidance to ensure compliance.
- Prepare and submit payroll reports bi-weekly, auditing payroll summaries for accuracy.
- Assist in resolving complex payroll and timekeeping issues for employees and supervisors.
- Maintain organized timekeeping documentation.
Health Benefits Coordination (10%):
- Act as the primary coordinator for employee health benefits, guiding new hires through the enrollment process and assisting with ongoing benefits management.
Additional Duties (15%):
- Support new employee orientation and conduct exit interviews, providing necessary information on benefits and leave balances.
- Participate in special projects as assigned by HR leadership.
Qualifications
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience:
At least 1.5 years of administrative support experience, with a focus on personnel procedures and policies.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in managing various leave types and health benefits.
- Proficiency in HR management systems and data compilation.
- Strong organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
