Position Summary

The Vice President of Taxation is a pivotal executive role responsible for delivering strategic tax leadership across all tax-related functions for the organization and its subsidiaries. This position entails overseeing the preparation of tax provision computations and necessary disclosures, ensuring adherence to tax regulations, and managing tax planning and research initiatives. The Vice President of Taxation will cultivate and maintain productive relationships with external tax advisors, as well as internal finance and operational stakeholders. Furthermore, this role involves representing the organization during tax examinations by various jurisdictions.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President of Taxation will lead a team of 25 professionals, guiding them in delivering high-quality tax solutions and maintaining efficient tax processes. The role supports a hybrid work arrangement, requiring attendance in the office three days a week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the completion of quarterly and annual tax provisions and address any accounting issues as necessary.
  • Direct the preparation and timely filing of federal income tax returns, as well as state and local returns.
  • Implement processes for sales tax and property tax compliance, including the completion of returns and processing payments.
  • Manage federal and state income tax, sales tax, and payroll tax-related audits.
  • Review the tax components of quarterly (10Q) and year-end (10K) consolidated financial statements filed with the SEC, collaborating closely with other financial and legal department stakeholders.
  • Maintain control procedures associated with tax reporting, including documentation of internal controls to support compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.
  • Ensure tax procedures are robust and comply with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Lead tax planning initiatives to align with current and emerging federal and state legislation surrounding tax practices.
  • Collaborate with various departments in responding to tax notices received from federal and state jurisdictions.
  • Research and implement legislative changes that may impact tax functions.
  • Provide tax technical advice regarding compensation-related matters, particularly for employees working away from their tax homes.
  • Advise on all aspects of accountable plans.
  • Oversee all tax aspects of M&A activities, including federal, state, and local income tax issues, sales and use tax, and compensation-related payroll tax issues.
  • Offer income, sales and use, and compensation-related tax advice to internal stakeholders, considering all business, operational, and system-related factors.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting with over 10 years of relevant experience.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Experience in Big 4 firms and corporate tax departments.
Additional Experience
  • Proven track record in completing quarterly tax provisions.
  • Experience leading tax planning initiatives in alignment with current legislation.
  • Experience managing tax audit and compliance programs in public organizations.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed in an office/home office environment.

Compensation: $248,000 - $295,000

Final compensation is based on experience, training, education, and location.
