Senior Electrical Reliability Specialist in Sustainable Energy

The Senior Electrical Reliability Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of electrical systems within the clean energy sector. This position involves applying advanced engineering principles to identify, analyze, and resolve electrical issues, thereby promoting safe and reliable operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert support for low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems, including switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and DC systems.
- Maintain and update site single line electrical diagrams, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Lead site arc flash assessments and evaluate modifications to electrical infrastructure to mitigate risks and enhance safety.
- Develop and manage multi-year capital project plans aimed at improving electrical infrastructure.
- Conduct electrical coordination studies to ensure the safety of systems and personnel, establishing specifications for safety device settings.
- Collaborate with maintenance and project engineering teams to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations.
- Adhere to the Life Cycle Asset Management (LCAM) process throughout the lifecycle of new assets.
- Contribute to the development of design and installation specifications, as well as commissioning plans.
- Participate in the evaluation of equipment and technical suppliers, developing acceptance tests and inspection criteria.
- Oversee the final checkout of new electrical equipment installations, including factory and site acceptance testing.
- Enhance the use of predictive and non-destructive testing methodologies to identify reliability issues.
- Establish and uphold site electrical safety procedures to protect personnel and equipment.
- Review and refine preventative maintenance procedures for electrical equipment.
- Develop engineering solutions to recurring failures and other operational challenges affecting capacity, quality, cost, or compliance.
- Utilize engineering knowledge to analyze asset performance, including overall equipment effectiveness and remaining useful life.
- Maintain reliability improvement programs for critical electrical assets and assist in root cause failure analysis.
- Review project design packages to ensure reliability and safety standards are met.
- Assist in developing and monitoring preventative maintenance programs.
- Generate various reports as required and maintain a professional image in all interactions.
- Support other departments and administrative personnel as needed.
- Be available for on-call support to assist with plant operations as necessary.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering is required.
- A minimum of ten years of relevant experience is preferred, ideally within continuous process industries.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 70B is essential.
- Familiarity with NETA and IEEE standards is preferred.
- Experience with electrical testing technologies is advantageous.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Self-motivated with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
- Ability to make informed decisions with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices.
- Experience in commissioning electrical equipment is a plus.
- Familiarity with SAP or similar maintenance management systems is beneficial.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in both office and field environments, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
- Travel requirements are minimal, less than 10% of the time.
Additional Requirements
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks and pre-employment assessments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 20 lbs and sit for extended periods.
- Covid-19 vaccination is required.
