Position Overview:

The Vice President of Engineering will manage and direct all facets of the technical division, including capital planning, project oversight, systems engineering, and the leadership of technical teams. This role is pivotal in enhancing operational efficiency, optimizing expenditures, and taking charge of capital project management, effective line design, equipment assessment, and operational performance. The position reports directly to the COO and collaborates with all organizational levels, including the senior executive team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs the technical division across the organization, fostering individual growth, strategic planning, and execution.
  • Oversees engineering solutions and capital initiatives from conception to completion. This includes initiating ideas, developing designs, estimating costs, coordinating installations, troubleshooting start-ups, and training personnel on new equipment.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive 3-year capital strategy.
  • Maintains ownership of the "Theory of Operation" across all platforms, showcasing extensive knowledge of materials, equipment, and products. Collaborates closely with R&D, QA, Sanitation, and Manufacturing to define equipment standards, optimize processes, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Creates and sustains material balances and operational capability data to ensure optimal production rates and parameters.
  • Utilizes technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and leadership to address challenges and drive enhancements.
  • Identifies, develops, and executes equipment and system improvements that yield financial and performance advantages.
  • Guides the technical organization in New Product Development processes, evaluating concepts, designing, prototyping, testing, and launching new products.
  • Champions the definition and selection of process equipment, advocating for best engineering practices to enhance performance. Collaborates with Manufacturing teams to assess the performance impacts of new equipment or modifications.
  • Effectively represents the company's interests when engaging with external contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants, while fostering a positive and constructive atmosphere within the organization.
  • Supports other departments by providing technical training and guidance to enhance operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering with over 15 years of experience in the Food, Dairy, or Consumer Packaged Goods manufacturing sectors. Degrees in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering are preferred; other relevant technical degrees may be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading the selection, design, specification, and development of new technology platforms, including modifications to existing manufacturing assets. Proven ability to lead front-end engineering activities and projects across a complex network of facilities.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to draw sound technical conclusions from limited data and produce concise reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Exhibits sound business acumen to drive comprehensive business propositions, with strong communication skills across various organizational levels and cultural environments.
  • Experience in leading and influencing cross-functional teams and multiple facilities to achieve complex business objectives.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement processes and systems, driving cost savings and process optimization through innovative designs.
  • Proven experience in capital project management and technical risk analysis.
  • Successful track record in implementing process and packaging technologies in a manufacturing environment through Vertical Start-Ups.
