Position Overview

The Software Asset Manager is responsible for supervising the daily operations, methodologies, vendor assessments, and configuration of the systems that facilitate the oversight of all software assets within GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation. This role will assist in developing processes and system configurations to support comprehensive lifecycle management of software, encompassing both On-premises and SaaS licensing. The individual will ensure the accuracy of software entitlements, adherence to licensing agreements, and optimization of software expenditures for both new acquisitions and renewals.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will:
  • Ensure the accuracy of all software-related information in the asset repository. Conduct reconciliations between asset records and other pertinent data sources; investigate and resolve discrepancies. Possess a solid understanding of the data associated with software records and the normalization of raw software discovery data.

  • Distribute Software Entitlements
  • Complete Software Discovery Models
  • Create Software Installation Records and Normalize Discovery Models
  • Conduct Software Reconciliation
  • Enhance End-User Computing Software Installations
  • Administer software renewal schedules
  • Generate or modify software entitlement records that detail the number of purchased and available rights for software products, including associated licenses.
  • Interpret software contract licensing and metric language.
  • Produce reports and analyze data related to software usage, license positions, and compliance status.
  • Maintain an effective license position for key software vendors, which includes conducting periodic self-assessments, engaging external expertise when necessary, and providing recommendations for resolving non-compliance issues.
  • Educate and train stakeholders on processes.
  • Participate in software audit response initiatives. Provide software data to support compliance during software audits.
  • Investigate industry best practices and compare them against the organization's practices to establish benchmarks for managing IT assets.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 4 years of professional experience OR an Associate's degree with a minimum of 7 years of professional experience OR a High School Diploma with a minimum of 9 years of professional experience.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in Software Asset Management, software contracting, or licensing.
  • Note: Military experience is considered equivalent to professional experience.
Eligibility Requirement:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Sponsorship for employment visas will not be provided for this position.
Desired Skills:
  • CSAM or IAITAM certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong familiarity and technical proficiency with asset management software inventory-tracking systems, such as Flexera and ServiceNow.
  • Comprehensive understanding of SAM policies, processes, metrics, and configurations, including integration with other modules like CMDB, SCCM, IBM BigFix, ServiceNow discovery, and contract management.
  • Experience in interpreting software contract licensing and metric language.
  • Knowledge of software asset management policies, processes, metrics, and their implementation across an organization.
  • Solid analytical experience with industry-standard toolsets.
  • In-depth knowledge of software license agreements from major vendors such as Oracle, Microsoft, IBM, Adobe, and VMware.
  • Experience in executing cross-functional projects and processes through collaboration.
  • Ability to define and document process flows, work instructions, and training materials.
  • Familiarity with Software FinOps and a desire to expand knowledge in this area.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is competitive and will be influenced by various factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of the base salary.
