Software Asset Management Specialist

The Software Asset Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations, processes, vendor audits, and configuration of the toolset that facilitates the oversight of all software assets within GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation. This position plays a crucial role in developing processes and configuring tools to support comprehensive life cycle management of software, encompassing both On-premises and SaaS licensing. The Software Asset Manager ensures the accuracy of software entitlements, adherence to licensing agreements, and optimization of software expenditures for both new acquisitions and renewals.
Key Responsibilities
In this position, you will:
- Ensure the integrity of all software-related data within the repository. Conduct reconciliations between asset records and other pertinent data sources; investigate and resolve discrepancies. Demonstrate a solid understanding of the data linked to software records and the normalization of raw software discovery data.
- Manage Software Models and Lifecycles.
- Oversee Software Entitlements.
- Distribute Software Entitlements as necessary.
- Complete Software Discovery Models.
- Create Software Installation Records and normalize discovery models.
- Conduct Software Reconciliation.
- Optimize End-User Computing Software Installations.
- Maintain the software renewal calendar.
- Develop or modify software entitlement records that reflect the number of purchased and available rights for software products and associated licenses.
- Interpret software contract licensing and metric language.
- Generate reports and analyze data concerning software utilization, license positions, and compliance status.
- Maintain an effective license position for key software vendors, which includes performing periodic self-audits, engaging outside expertise when necessary, and providing recommendations for resolving non-compliance issues.
- Communicate and train stakeholders on processes.
- Participate in software audit response efforts, providing software data for defense during compliance audits.
- Research industry best practices and compare them against the organization's practices to establish benchmarks for managing IT assets.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 4 years of professional experience, OR an Associate's degree with a minimum of 7 years of professional experience, OR a High School Diploma with a minimum of 9 years of professional experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in Software Asset Management, software contracting, or licensing.
- Military experience is considered equivalent to professional experience.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
- CSAM or IAITAM certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong familiarity and technical competence with asset management software inventory-tracking systems, such as Flexera and ServiceNow.
- In-depth understanding of SAM policies, processes, metrics, and configurations, including integration with other modules like CMDB, SCCM, IBM BigFix, ServiceNow discovery, and contract management.
- Experience in interpreting software contract licensing and metric language.
- Knowledge of software asset management policies, processes, metrics, and their implementation across an organization.
- Solid analytical experience with industry-standard toolsets.
- Strong knowledge of software license agreements from major vendors such as Oracle, Microsoft, IBM, Adobe, and VMware.
- Experience in implementing cross-functional projects and processes through collaboration.
- Ability to define and document process flows, work instructions, and training materials.
- Familiarity with Software FinOps and a desire to enhance knowledge in this area.
