Job Overview

Position Summary: The Healthcare Support Specialist provides essential administrative assistance under the guidance of the practice manager. Responsibilities may encompass scheduling patient appointments, managing phone communications, and directing inquiries to the appropriate personnel. The role also involves registering patients, updating demographic information, verifying insurance coverage, and processing payments. Clinical responsibilities are carried out under the supervision of a physician or mid-level provider, which may include obtaining and documenting vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examinations, drawing blood, and administering medications as instructed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform general office tasks including patient registration, medical record management, appointment scheduling, and telephone communications.
  • Execute clinical duties such as rooming patients, taking vital signs, recording medical histories, preparing patients for examinations, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed.
  • Provide care in a safe and effective manner, ensuring accurate and complete medical records.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills with patients, families, and team members.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to accommodate the staffing needs of the practice.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient work environment.
  • Facilitate timely and courteous patient and visitor interactions.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A background in medical terminology is essential. Graduation from a medical assistant program is preferred, with training available if necessary. Certification is preferred or a willingness to pursue certification.

Experience: Previous experience in a medical environment is desirable, with prior roles as a medical assistant being advantageous.

Other Requirements: Proficiency in computer tasks is necessary, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions: Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues is inherent in this role, necessitating the use of appropriate protective measures.

Physical Activity: Involves various physical tasks including lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing, bending, sitting, standing, and walking.
