Clinical Laboratory Specialist: Flow Cytometry

Overview:
The Clinical Laboratory Specialist conducts diagnostic tests to support the identification and management of medical conditions. This role involves assisting in the acquisition, processing, and evaluation of specimens as requested by healthcare providers. Specialists in this field possess the ability to understand the interrelation of various tests and are knowledgeable about physiological factors that may influence test outcomes, which are critical for physicians in diagnosing and understanding diseases.Key Responsibilities:
1. Employs independent judgment to execute both standard and intricate laboratory analyses utilizing diverse methodologies, instruments, and tools to aid physicians in diagnosing and managing health issues.
2. Applies professional discernment to effectively prioritize and assess different test requests.
3. Adheres to protocols for the collection and processing of biological samples.
4. Conducts analytical testing procedures with high levels of accuracy and reliability.
5. Exhibits scientific understanding of testing methodologies, analytical processes, and their implications, facilitating proper interpretation in relation to health and disease. Integrates various data to troubleshoot issues.
6. Implements and oversees quality assurance, new equipment, and/or methodologies.
7. Performs tasks efficiently while maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
8. Engages in educational initiatives within the department.
9. Demonstrates the requisite knowledge and skills to cater to the physical, psychological, educational, and safety needs of patients across all age groups.
10. Undertakes additional responsibilities as necessary.
Additional Information:
Technical Skills
1. Prior experience in a clinical laboratory environment, particularly with exposure to multiple laboratory disciplines, is preferred.
2. Experience collaborating with various organizational levels is essential.
3. Background in healthcare settings is advantageous.
4. Proficiency in MS Office applications [Outlook, Excel, Word] or equivalent software is mandatory.
Education and Qualifications
1. Education: A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related scientific field, along with successful completion of an internship in Medical Technology or equivalent laboratory experience as recognized by ASCP and CLIA standards is required.
2. Certification: Must possess certification or be eligible for certification by ASCP at the Technologist level, or have been grandfathered at the Technologist level prior to 2004. Certification must be obtained within 12 months of commencing the position.
3. Relevant Experience: A minimum of 1 year in flow cytometry is preferred.
4. Supervisory Experience: None required.
