Position Summary
Under the guidance of the designated Wexford Health manager and clinical oversight from the Director of Nursing and the Medical Director, the Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for delivering patient care through a comprehensive nursing process that includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role also involves directing patient education activities and supervising ancillary personnel while upholding professional nursing standards.

Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide a wide range of services, including:
- Conducting assessments and delivering nursing care to patients.
- Providing leadership and guidance to LPNs, CNAs, and other nursing staff.
- Coordinating various medical services for diagnostics and treatments as directed by healthcare providers.
- Administering medications and performing medical procedures as required.
- Maintaining knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutic diets, and behavioral sciences relevant to the correctional environment.
- Responding to medical emergencies and providing first aid or triage as necessary.
- Documenting nursing encounters and maintaining accurate patient records.
- Participating in in-service education sessions and promoting quality assurance standards.
- Building professional relationships with patients, staff, and other healthcare personnel.
Environmental Conditions
This position operates within a standard medical setting in a correctional facility, requiring daily interaction with inmates and correctional staff. Temperature variations may occur while moving throughout the facility.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Illinois
- Current CPR certification
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- Preferred: One (1) year of clinical experience
