DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Under the guidance of the technical specialist and director, the incumbent will execute various functions related to laboratory operations. This role encompasses the management of all aspects of departmental activities and personnel, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care while taking on additional responsibilities as needed.

OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION

  • Engage in all facets of laboratory operations across multiple locations, with a primary focus on the Aultman Massillon Laboratory.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and leadership to meet hospital and departmental objectives.
  • Introduce and demonstrate innovative procedures, programs, and equipment to departmental staff and other hospital personnel as necessary.
  • Participate in the selection, training, and evaluation of staff performance, providing recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Implement and assess the quality and critical components of service programs, including proficiency testing and quality controls, addressing any identified issues promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and hospital policies.
  • Maintain departmental equipment and seek opportunities for program enhancements and strategic improvements.
  • Review and develop laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Oversee operational excellence within the department, ensuring quality services align with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to develop systems and resolve issues affecting departmental and organizational goals and patient care delivery.
  • Actively engage in departmental and hospital committees and meetings as appropriate.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Technical Specialist, Lead, or Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science with certification as a Medical Lab Technician from an accredited certifying body.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

  • Conduct testing and quality control in accordance with established laboratory procedures and instrumentation.
  • Utilize professional judgment to prioritize and manage varying test requests and workloads efficiently.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform maintenance on instruments and equipment following departmental guidelines and manufacturer specifications.
  • Collaborate with Emergency Department staff and the Director as necessary.

SKILLS

Proven ability to multitask while working across various departments and locations, particularly focusing on the Aultman Massillon Laboratory.

  • Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding performance expectations, consistently delivering results that satisfy both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to exemplify integrity, high energy, initiative, self-confidence, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Proficiency in personal computer applications necessary for quality monitoring and reporting.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work hours are eight hours per day, with this unit requiring 24/7 coverage.
