DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Under the guidance of the technical specialist and director, this role encompasses a variety of responsibilities. The individual will oversee all facets of departmental operations, manage personnel within the assigned area, and ensure the delivery of quality patient care. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
- Engage in activities across all laboratory departments, focusing primarily on the Aultman Massillon Laboratory.
- Collaborate with colleagues and leadership to meet both hospital and departmental objectives.
- Introduce and showcase new procedures, programs, and equipment to departmental and hospital staff as needed.
- Participate in the selection, training, and evaluation of staff performance, providing recommendations for personnel actions.
- Implement and assess the quality and critical components of service programs, including proficiency testing and quality controls, addressing any identified issues promptly.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and hospital policies.
- Maintain departmental equipment and explore opportunities for program enhancements and strategic development.
- Review and establish laboratory policies and procedures.
- Be accountable for operational excellence within the department, ensuring quality services are provided in line with applicable policies and professional standards.
- Work in partnership with other departments to create systems and resolve issues impacting departmental and organizational goals as well as patient care delivery.
- Actively engage in departmental and hospital committees and meetings as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned by the Technical Specialist, Lead, or Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science with certification as a Medical Lab Technician from an accredited certifying body.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
- Conduct testing and quality control following approved laboratory protocols and equipment.
- Utilize professional judgment to prioritize and manage varying test requests and workloads efficiently.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform maintenance on instruments and equipment in accordance with departmental guidelines and manufacturer specifications.
- Collaborate with Emergency Department staff and the Director as necessary.
SKILLS
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks while working across various departments and locations, particularly within the Aultman Massillon Laboratory.
- Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding performance expectations, consistently delivering results that satisfy both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to consistently exhibit integrity, high energy, initiative, self-confidence, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Proficiency in personal computer applications essential for quality monitoring and reporting.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work hours are eight hours per day, with the unit requiring 24/7 coverage.
