DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Under the guidance of the technical specialist and director, this role encompasses a variety of responsibilities. The individual will oversee all facets of departmental operations and manage personnel within their designated area. A commitment to ensuring quality patient care is paramount, along with the ability to undertake additional responsibilities as needed.
OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
- Engage in all laboratory functions across various Aultman laboratory sites, with a primary focus on the Aultman Massillon Laboratory.
- Collaborate with colleagues and leadership to meet hospital and departmental objectives.
- Introduce and demonstrate innovative procedures, programs, and equipment to departmental staff and other hospital personnel as necessary.
- Participate in the selection, training, and evaluation of staff performance, providing recommendations for personnel actions.
- Implement and assess the quality and critical components of service programs provided by the department, including proficiency testing and quality controls, and take necessary actions to address identified issues.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and hospital policies.
- Maintain departmental equipment and seek opportunities for program enhancements and strategic development.
- Review and refine laboratory policies and procedures.
- Be accountable for operational excellence within the department, ensuring that quality services are delivered in alignment with established policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to develop systems and resolve issues impacting departmental and organizational goals as well as patient care delivery.
- Actively engage in departmental and hospital committees and meetings as appropriate.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Technical Specialist, Lead, or Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Science with certification as a Medical Lab Technician from an accredited certifying body.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
- Conduct testing and quality control in accordance with approved laboratory protocols and instrumentation.
- Utilize professional judgment to prioritize and manage varying test requests and workloads efficiently.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform maintenance on instruments and equipment as per departmental guidelines and manufacturer specifications.
- Collaborate with Emergency Department staff and the Director as necessary.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks while working across various departments and locations, particularly focusing on the Aultman Massillon Laboratory.
- Demonstrated success in achieving and surpassing performance expectations, consistently delivering results that satisfy both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to consistently exhibit integrity, high energy, initiative, self-confidence, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Proficiency in using personal computers for quality monitoring and reporting purposes.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Standard work hours of eight hours per day. This unit requires 24/7 coverage.
