Clinical Specimen Processing Associate

POSITION OBJECTIVE

  • The objective of this role is to guarantee that specimens are accurately registered, ordered, and processed in accordance with established protocols and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the ALS, Microbiology, Virology, and Send Out departments to ensure proper registration, ordering, and processing of specimens.
  • Digitally scan requisitions into the laboratory information system.
  • Respond to phone inquiries while delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Conduct precise patient and insurance data entry into the laboratory system.
  • Request laboratory tests from OPD, ALS, and CareEvolve requisitions.
  • Accurately process and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Load the automated tracking system in accordance with set guidelines.
  • Centrifuge and separate specimens based on testing requirements.
  • Aliquot specimens as necessary.
  • Monitor and maintain the tube system, ensuring timely checks for urgent cases and prioritizing tasks accordingly.
  • Adhere to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Follow established safety and Infection Control Policies diligently.
  • Ensure that all instrumentation and equipment are maintained in optimal working condition.
  • Provide technical assistance to laboratory clients and direct inquiries to the Unit Director or other Technical Specialists as appropriate.
  • Maintain the highest standards of professional integrity in all daily operations, including the confidentiality of patient information.
  • Assist with projects or additional tasks as assigned by the Unit Director.
  • Address and resolve any issues that may arise during operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Assistant Manager, or Unit Director.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency is required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining focus on responsibilities.
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues, management, and other healthcare professionals are essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Work hours are determined by the Supervisor, Assistant Manager, or Unit Director and may vary based on departmental staffing needs.
  • Availability for Saturday, Sunday, and Holiday shifts is required.
  • Occasional paid overtime may be necessary, pending approval.
  • Work is conducted in a well-lit and ventilated laboratory setting.
