POSITION OVERVIEW
The role of the Accession Technician is vital in ensuring that laboratory specimens are accurately registered, ordered, and processed in accordance with established protocols.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with various departments including Microbiology, Virology, and Send Out to ensure proper handling of specimens.
- Utilize Cerner for scanning requisitions and managing patient data.
- Provide exceptional customer service through effective communication on the phone.
- Conduct precise data entry for patient and insurance information within Cerner.
- Request laboratory tests from OPD, ALS, and CareEvolve requisitions.
- Prepare and process specimens appropriately for testing.
- Adhere to established guidelines when loading the automated track.
- Centrifuge and separate specimens based on testing requirements.
- Perform aliquoting as necessary.
- Monitor and maintain the tube system, prioritizing urgent tasks.
- Comply with all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Follow safety and Infection Control Policies diligently.
- Ensure that all equipment is maintained in optimal working condition.
- Provide technical support to laboratory clients and direct inquiries to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain the highest standards of professional integrity and confidentiality regarding patient records.
- Assist with special projects or tasks as directed by the Unit Director.
- Identify and resolve issues that may arise during operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Familiarity with medical terminology is essential.
- Basic computer proficiency is necessary.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining focus is crucial.
- Effective communication skills with colleagues and healthcare professionals are required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Department operates 24/7 throughout the year.
