Overview:

The Emergency Services Support Specialist encompasses a diverse skill set that includes roles such as Emergency Department Technician, Patient Registrar, Unit Clerk, and Monitor Technician. This position involves executing a range of tasks delegated by registered nurses, contributing to patient care in alignment with established competencies and training. The specialist is expected to uphold all hospital protocols and actively support the patient care team in ensuring a clean, organized, and safe environment for patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exemplifies the core competencies of OneCHRISTUS: Self-Leadership, Leadership of Others, or Leadership of Leaders.
  • Facilitates the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.
  • In accordance with training, monitors patient conditions, identifies changes, and communicates findings to the registered nurse.
  • Accompanies stable patients to various departments as necessary.
  • Maintains, cleans, and returns medical equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in the procurement and management of stock items.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing specialized procedures such as venipuncture, splint application, removal of staples and sutures, non-sterile dressing changes, peak expiratory flow rate measurement, pulse oximetry, and crutch training.
  • Prepares for Emergency Department procedures and provides assistance to the registered nurse as required.
  • Operates patient monitoring devices, records rhythm strips, performs 12-lead EKGs, and conducts biomarker and glucometer assessments under the guidance of the registered nurse.
  • Conducts phlebotomy, collects laboratory samples as directed, and places saline locks under the supervision of the registered nurse.
  • Exhibits competence in fulfilling assigned patient care duties that cater to the specific needs of the patient population served.
  • Adapts patient assessment and care methods to meet the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs of each individual.
  • Performs clerical and non-nursing tasks on nursing units, including acting as a receptionist, transcribing orders, and assisting with the maintenance of patient and hospital records.
  • As a Patient Registrar, warmly welcomes patients upon arrival, demonstrating a thorough understanding of customer service principles and departmental expectations. Ensures patient comfort while awaiting registration or consultation. Accurately documents necessary demographic, insurance, and financial information in the system.
  • Upholds the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health in all activities.
  • Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in patient care within an acute care hospital or military medical environment, or an active EMT license in lieu of experience is required.
  • Current BLS certification is mandatory.
  • EMT Basic or EMT Intermediate license is preferred or required in lieu of experience.
