Job Class Title: Court Coordinator

Description of Work

The District Court 35, serving Watauga County, is seeking a qualified candidate to undertake administrative and case management responsibilities for the District Court Judges. This role encompasses all five counties in the district, including Avery, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga, and Yancey counties.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Draft and prepare various documents such as correspondence, reports, and legal papers.
  • Monitor case statuses, compile and disseminate periodic case reports, and respond to inquiries regarding case progress.
  • Coordinate scheduling, resolve conflicts, and prepare court calendars.
  • Manage communications by screening callers and visitors, addressing inquiries, and providing information.
  • Organize and route mail based on content, including electronic communications.
  • Maintain filing systems and retrieve documents as needed, ensuring timely follow-up.
  • Order and distribute office supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Compile continuing education reports and manage travel reimbursement requests.
  • Participate in committees and attend meetings as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Court Manager or Chief District Court Judge.
This position reports directly to the Court Manager. Standard working hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of: court systems and legal office practices and procedures.

Skills in: case management, organizational abilities, data entry with precision, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Ability to: elucidate office and court procedures to the public; analyze and interpret information accurately; work independently on special court programs; utilize proper spelling and grammar; collaborate effectively with others; communicate in a language other than English; and manage tasks within specified deadlines.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in court administration, criminal justice, public administration, business, or a related field, along with one year of experience in the court system to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for the role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
