Job Overview

The Department of Human Services, Bureau of Juvenile Justice Services, is in search of individuals capable of fostering effective relationships with court-involved youth to assist in addressing personal challenges and providing constructive reinforcement to cultivate appropriate attitudes and responsible behaviors. This role necessitates a commitment to collaboration with a diverse population and a strong aspiration to positively influence the lives of young individuals.

Position Responsibilities

As a Youth Justice Coordinator, your duties will encompass providing nonprofessional care, custody, supervision, and training to adjudicated youth within a secure or restricted environment. Your responsibilities will include ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming atmosphere in accordance with the Department of Human Services and relevant agency policies. You will maintain security through constant vigilance and direct supervision of residents to guarantee a safe living environment, including preventing self-harm or harm to others. You will uphold order and discipline by actively supervising residents, responding to emergencies, and employing the least restrictive intervention techniques to prevent escapes, manage inappropriate behavior, and maintain a secure setting. Additionally, you will offer instruction and guidance to residents to aid in developing acceptable behavior and skills in daily activities, including housekeeping, work training programs, and study habits. You will also support their social and emotional development by modeling pro-social values and behaviors, fostering a genuine desire for positive change.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • This position requires shift work in a 24/7/365 operation, including holidays and weekends. Shifts typically consist of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM without a duty-free lunch. You will have a 5-day work week with 2 regular days off.
  • This position may require travel.
  • Overtime may be required as needed, with both voluntary and potentially mandatory options.
  • Must be willing to accept employment at the designated secure treatment unit and commute to this location.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Two years of experience in the care, custody, activities, or personal guidance of adolescents or adults in a human services or social services program, law enforcement or correctional program, or an educational, community, or military organization; or
  • Successful completion of the Juvenile Justice Specialist Trainee program; or
  • An associate's degree in social sciences, counseling, restorative justice, juvenile justice, child development, behavioral sciences, human services, criminal justice, education, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
  • You must be at least 21 years old at the time of application.

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
