Key Responsibilities
As a certified law enforcement officer, you will engage in various law enforcement and crime prevention activities, including:
- Conducting patrols in streets, businesses, and residential areas to enforce laws and regulations.
- Responding to emergency calls and incidents, taking appropriate actions as necessary.
- Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports for investigations.
- Conducting thorough investigations, gathering evidence, and interviewing witnesses.
- Building effective relationships with colleagues and other law enforcement agencies.
- Engaging in community policing initiatives to promote crime prevention.
- Making arrests and managing the transportation of detainees.
- Overseeing specific departmental programs as assigned.
- Adhering to all safety protocols and maintaining issued equipment.
- Participating in ongoing training and professional development.
Experience and Training
High school graduation is required, along with completion of DPSST basic law enforcement training post-hire. A minimum of one year of experience in law enforcement is typically required to familiarize the officer with job functions.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver's license, and have no criminal record. Attendance at the Police Academy and obtaining a DPSST Basic Certificate within one year of appointment is mandatory.
Desirable Skills and Experience
Previous experience in law enforcement, knowledge of the local community, and bilingual abilities (Spanish/English) are advantageous.
