Position Overview:
This role is for a Geotechnical Civil Engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, focusing on the Northwestern Division, Omaha District, within the Engineering Division's Geotechnical Engineering & Sciences Branch.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Geotechnical Civil Engineer, you will:
  • Act as a senior specialist in geotechnical engineering, conducting a variety of geotechnical and material designs and studies to support Civil, Military, and Hazardous Toxic and Radiological Waste (HTRW) programs.
  • Lead design studies and prepare contract documents for diverse Military, Civil Works, and HTRW projects, including airfield and heavy pavement designs.
  • Coordinate and manage multi-disciplinary teams and/or consultants throughout the planning, design, reporting, contract documentation, and construction phases of projects.
  • Develop scopes of work, investigation plans, geotechnical analyses, reports, designs, contract plans, and specifications for geoenvironmental projects.
  • Provide assistance to Emergency Management initiatives related to flood fight measures and rehabilitation programs.

Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, candidates must be U.S. Citizens and meet the following educational and experience requirements:

Basic Education Requirement:
A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program is required. The program must include:
  • Courses in differential and integral calculus, as well as advanced physics and chemistry.
  • At least five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, and properties of materials.

Combination of Education and Experience:
Candidates may qualify through a combination of education and experience that demonstrates a thorough understanding of engineering principles and practices.

Specialized Experience:
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience that includes:
  • Preparation of geotechnical reports, including subsurface investigation plans and laboratory testing for foundation characterization.
  • Establishing design parameters and assumptions for foundation and earthwork features.
  • Conducting analyses related to settlement, slope stability, embankment protection, seepage, bearing capacity, and earth pressures.

Additional Information:
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required. A one-year trial/probationary period may be necessary. Direct Deposit of Pay is mandatory. This position may involve relocation and other incentives as deemed appropriate by the agency.
