Key Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our dynamic team focused on serving the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. This role involves leveraging cutting-edge service and distributed computing technologies for satellite situational awareness (SSA) data processing and dissemination.

The EMMETT initiative, a state-of-the-art Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Indications and Warning (I&W) system, aims to create a comprehensive repository of resident space objects (RSOs), identify RSOs of interest, and deliver critical data to ground operators. The EMMETT team employs programmatic approaches, sensor modeling, and systems engineering expertise to provide this exceptional SDA I&W system.

What You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Conducting TS/SCI Java software development for various modules, utilizing techniques such as event-driven programming, error logging, and exception handling.
  • Executing TS/SCI software analysis, architecture, engineering, and integration services across unit, module, and system levels.
  • Providing comprehensive software engineering support necessary for system implementation.
  • Adhering to industry best practices and modern software development methodologies, while accommodating operational requirements.
  • Generating technical reports, white papers, and documentation to record findings from all software engineering activities.
Essential Qualifications:

Required:
  • A Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience; OR a PhD with 8+ years of relevant experience. Additional experience may substitute for formal education.
  • This position mandates a minimum of Top Secret clearance with the capability to upgrade to TS/SCI and pass a polygraph as required.
  • Proficiency in Java, including Model, Entity, Data Transfer Object (DTO), and Data Access (DAO) patterns.
  • Experience in software design and development within cloud architectures, including containerization (Docker).
  • Familiarity with Unix-based operating systems, particularly RedHat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience with Remote Debugging (JDWP) and Spring Framework, including MapStruct Annotations.
  • Knowledge of relational databases, such as PostgreSQL, including query and command comprehension.
  • Experience navigating and utilizing Linux distributions.
  • Familiarity with messaging systems like ActiveMQ and Camel Route.
  • Understanding of web application fundamentals, including HTTP, HTML, REST, WebSocket, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Gerrit/GIT.
  • Experience with Apache Kafka.
  • Knowledge of Microservices, Containerization, and Kubernetes.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, including RDS and ElastiCache.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language, such as Python.
  • Familiarity with web server configurations on NGINX, Apache, or similar platforms.
  • Experience utilizing AWS as a developer.
  • Experience with build and deployment tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
  • Experience collaborating with external developers and integrating their components into larger frameworks.
  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • A background in physics, mathematics, or aerospace is advantageous.
  • Experience with NiFi, including flow and process group development.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ CE certification or progress toward certification.
