Position Overview

This role is critical in leveraging advanced service and distributed computing technologies for satellite situational awareness (SSA) data processing and dissemination.

The EMMETT initiative, a cutting-edge Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Indications and Warning (I&W) system, aims to create a comprehensive repository of resident space objects (RSOs), identify RSOs of interest, and supply vital data to ground operators. The EMMETT team employs programmatic strategies, sensor modeling, and systems engineering expertise to deliver a top-tier SDA I&W system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute TS/SCI Java software development for various modules, utilizing techniques such as event-driven or state-driven programming, error logging, and exception management.
  • Conduct TS/SCI software analysis, architecture, engineering, and integration services across unit, module, and system levels.
  • Oversee all facets of software engineering support necessary for system implementation.
  • Adhere to open standards and contemporary software development methodologies, incorporating industry best practices where operationally feasible.
  • Generate technical reports, white papers, and documentation to record findings from all software engineering activities.
Qualifications:

Required:
  • A Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience; OR a PhD with 8+ years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must possess a minimum of Top Secret clearance with the ability to upgrade to TS/SCI and pass a polygraph as required.
  • Proficiency in Java, including Model, Entity, Data Transfer Object (DTO), and Data Access (DAO) patterns.
  • Experience in software design and development within cloud architectures, including containerization (Docker).
  • Familiarity with Unix-based operating systems, particularly RedHat Enterprise Linux.
  • Knowledge of Remote Debugging (JDWP) and Spring Framework - MapStruct Annotations.
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including query and command understanding.
  • Competence in using Linux distributions and command-line navigation.
  • Experience with messaging systems like ActiveMQ and Camel Route.
  • Understanding of web application fundamentals, including HTTP, HTML, REST, WebSocket, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Gerrit/GIT.
  • Experience with Apache Kafka.
  • Knowledge of Microservices, Containerization, and Kubernetes.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as RDS and ElastiCache.
Desired:
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language, such as Python.
  • Familiarity with web server configuration on NGINX, Apache, or similar platforms.
  • Experience using AWS as a developer.
  • Experience with build/deploy tools like Jenkins and Ansible.
  • Collaboration experience with external developers and integration of their components into larger frameworks.
  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • Background in physics, mathematics, or aerospace.
  • Experience with NiFi, including flow and process group development.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ CE certification or progress towards certification.
