Position Overview

Peraton is seeking a Java Software Engineer to join our dynamic team, dedicated to supporting critical missions for the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. This role involves engaging with cutting-edge technologies in distributed computing and service-oriented architectures for satellite situational awareness (SSA) data processing and dissemination.

The EMMETT initiative represents a state-of-the-art Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Indications and Warning (I&W) system, designed to create a comprehensive database of resident space objects (RSOs), identify RSOs of interest, and deliver actionable data to ground operators. The EMMETT team leverages programmatic expertise, sensor modeling, and systems engineering to develop this premier SDA I&W solution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute TS/SCI Java software development for various modules, employing techniques such as event-driven programming, error logging, and exception management.
  • Conduct TS/SCI software analysis, architecture design, engineering, and integration at unit, module, and system levels.
  • Oversee all facets of software engineering support necessary for system implementation.
  • Adhere to industry best practices and modern software development methodologies, ensuring compliance with operational requirements.
  • Generate technical documentation, including reports and white papers, to articulate findings from software engineering activities.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree coupled with 8+ years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience. Additional experience may substitute for formal education.
  • This role necessitates a minimum of Top Secret clearance with the capability to upgrade to TS/SCI and successfully pass a polygraph examination as required.
  • Proficiency in Java, including Model, Entity, Data Transfer Object (DTO), and Data Access (DAO) patterns.
  • Experience in software design and development within cloud architectures, particularly utilizing container technologies (Docker).
  • Familiarity with Unix-based operating systems, such as RedHat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience with the Spring framework and JUnit test creation, along with Remote Debugging (JDWP) and Spring Framework - MapStruct Annotations.
  • Knowledge of relational databases, including PostgreSQL and REDIS, with an understanding of queries and commands.
  • Proficient in navigating Linux distributions and executing commands.
  • Experience with messaging systems like ActiveMQ and Camel Route.
  • Understanding of web application fundamentals, including HTTP, HTML, REST, WebSocket, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and version control systems like Gerrit/GIT.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ CE certification or progress towards certification.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Proficient in at least one scripting language, such as Python or Perl.
  • Knowledge of web server configurations on platforms like NGINX or Apache.
  • Familiarity with front-end frameworks like Bootstrap and Less.
  • Experience with Microservices, Containerization, and Kubernetes using Spring Boot.
  • Experience as a developer utilizing AWS.
  • Familiarity with build and deployment tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
  • Experience collaborating with external developers to integrate their components into larger systems.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • A background in physics, mathematics, or aerospace is advantageous.
