Position Overview

Peraton is seeking a Java Software Engineer to contribute to our mission supporting Intelligence Community and Department of Defense clients. This role is integral to a skilled team focused on advanced service and distributed computing technologies for satellite situational awareness (SSA) data processing and dissemination.

The EMMETT initiative, a cutting-edge Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Indications and Warning (I&W) system, aims to create a comprehensive repository of resident space objects (RSOs), identify RSOs of interest, and deliver critical data to ground operators. The EMMETT team employs programmatic strategies, sensor modeling, and systems engineering expertise to develop this premier SDA I&W system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute TS/SCI Java software development for various modules, utilizing techniques such as event-driven or state-driven programming, error logging, and exception management.
  • Conduct TS/SCI software analysis, architecture, engineering, and integration services across unit, module, and system levels.
  • Oversee all facets of software engineering support necessary for system implementation.
  • Comply with open standards and contemporary software development methodologies, incorporating industry best practices where operationally feasible.
  • Generate technical reports, white papers, and other documentation to capture findings from all software engineering activities.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • This role requires the candidate to hold a minimum of Top Secret clearance with the capability to upgrade to TS/SCI and pass a polygraph upon request.
  • Proficiency in Java (Model, Entity, Data Transfer Object (DTO), Data Access (DAO)).
  • Experience in software design and development within cloud architectures, including containerization (Docker).
  • Familiarity with Unix-based operating systems, particularly RedHat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience with the Spring framework.
  • Knowledge of JUnit test creation, Remote Debugging (JDWP), and Spring Framework - MapStruct Annotations.
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and REDIS (understanding queries and commands).
  • Proficient in using Linux distributions and command-line navigation.
  • Experience with messaging systems like ActiveMQ and Camel Route.
  • Understanding of web application fundamentals including HTTP, HTML, REST, WebSocket, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, and Gerrit/GIT.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ CE certification or in progress.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient in at least one scripting language such as Python or Perl.
  • Familiarity with web server configuration on NGINX, Apache, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of Bootstrap and Less.
  • Experience with Microservices, Containerization, and Kubernetes using Spring Boot.
  • Experience utilizing AWS as a developer.
  • Familiarity with build/deploy tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
  • Experience collaborating with external developers and integrating their components into a larger framework.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.
  • Background in physics, mathematics, or aerospace is a plus.
