Position Overview

Peraton is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our dynamic team focused on supporting critical Intelligence Community and Department of Defense initiatives. This role is essential for leveraging advanced service and distributed computing technologies to enhance satellite situational awareness (SSA) data processing and distribution.

The EMMETT program, a cutting-edge Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Indications and Warning (I&W) system, is designed to create a comprehensive repository of resident space objects (RSOs), identify RSOs of interest, and supply vital data to ground operators. The EMMETT team utilizes programmatic strategies, sensor modeling, and system engineering expertise to deliver this premier SDA I&W system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in TS/SCI Java software development for various modules, employing techniques such as event-driven and state-driven programming, along with robust error logging and exception handling.
  • Conduct TS/SCI software analysis, architecture, engineering, and integration services across unit, module, and system levels.
  • Support all facets of software engineering necessary for system implementation.
  • Adhere to open standards and contemporary software development methodologies, applying industry best practices as operational requirements permit.
  • Generate technical reports, white papers, and documentation to detail findings from software engineering activities.
Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience; OR a PhD with 8+ years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must possess a minimum of Top Secret clearance with the ability to upgrade to TS/SCI and pass a polygraph as required.
  • Proficiency in Java, including Model, Entity, Data Transfer Object (DTO), and Data Access (DAO) patterns.
  • Experience in software design and development with cloud architecture, particularly using container technologies (Docker).
  • Familiarity with Unix-based operating systems, specifically RedHat Enterprise Linux.
  • Knowledge of Remote Debugging (JDWP) and Spring Framework, including MapStruct Annotations.
  • Experience with relational databases, such as PostgreSQL, and an understanding of queries and commands.
  • Proficient in Linux distributions and command-line navigation.
  • Experience with messaging systems like ActiveMQ and Camel Route.
  • Basic understanding of web application technologies, including HTTP, HTML, REST, WebSocket, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Gerrit/GIT.
  • Experience with Apache Kafka and microservices architecture, including containerization and Kubernetes.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, including RDS and ElastiCache.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Proficient in at least one scripting language, such as Python.
  • Experience with web server configuration on platforms like NGINX or Apache.
  • Familiarity with AWS as a development environment.
  • Experience with build and deployment tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
  • Ability to collaborate with external developers and integrate their components into larger frameworks.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments.
  • A background in physics, mathematics, or aerospace is advantageous.
  • Experience with NiFi, particularly in developing flows and process groups.
  • Possession of an active CompTIA Security+ CE certification or progress towards certification.
