Key Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Java Software Engineer to contribute to our mission supporting critical national security initiatives. This role involves collaborating with a skilled team to leverage cutting-edge technologies for satellite situational awareness (SSA) data processing and distribution.

The EMMETT program, a state-of-the-art Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Indications and Warning (I&W) system, is designed to create a comprehensive repository of resident space objects (RSOs), identify RSOs of interest, and supply vital data to ground operators. The EMMETT team employs programmatic approaches, sensor modeling, and system engineering expertise to deliver this exceptional SDA I&W system.

Primary Duties:
  • Conduct TS/SCI Java software development for various modules, utilizing techniques such as event-driven programming, error logging, and exception handling.
  • Engage in TS/SCI software analysis, architecture, engineering, and integration services across unit, module, and system levels.
  • Support all facets of software engineering necessary for system implementation.
  • Adhere to open standards and contemporary software development methodologies, implementing industry best practices where operationally feasible.
  • Generate technical reports, white papers, and other documentation to capture findings from software engineering activities.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree accompanied by 8+ years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • This position necessitates a minimum of Top Secret clearance with the capability to upgrade to TS/SCI and pass a polygraph examination as required.
  • Proficiency in Java, including Model, Entity, Data Transfer Object (DTO), and Data Access (DAO) patterns.
  • Experience in software design and development within cloud architectures, including containerization (Docker).
  • Familiarity with Unix-based operating systems, particularly RedHat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience with the Spring framework.
  • Proficient in JUnit test creation, Remote Debugging (JDWP), and Spring Framework - MapStruct Annotations.
  • Experience with relational databases, such as PostgreSQL and REDIS.
  • Competence in using Linux distributions and command-line navigation.
  • Experience with messaging systems like ActiveMQ and Camel Route.
  • Basic understanding of web application technologies, including HTTP, HTML, REST, WebSocket, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Gerrit/GIT.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ CE certification or progress towards certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language, such as Python or Perl.
  • Familiarity with web server configurations on NGINX, Apache, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of Bootstrap and Less.
  • Experience with Microservices, Containerization, and Kubernetes using Spring Boot.
  • Experience utilizing AWS as a developer.
  • Familiarity with build and deployment tools like Jenkins and Ansible.
  • Experience collaborating with external developers and integrating their components into larger frameworks.
  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • A background in physics, mathematics, or aerospace is advantageous.
