Position Overview

Peraton is seeking a Java Software Engineer to contribute to our efforts in supporting the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense clients. This role is pivotal in a dynamic and skilled team focused on advanced service and distributed computing technologies for satellite situational awareness (SSA) data processing and dissemination.

The EMMETT initiative, a cutting-edge Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Indications and Warning (I&W) system, aims to create a comprehensive database of resident space objects (RSOs), identify RSOs of significance, and relay critical information to ground operators. The EMMETT team employs programmatic strategies, sensor modeling, and systems engineering expertise to deliver this premier SDA I&W system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in TS/SCI Java software development for various modules, utilizing techniques such as event-driven or state-driven programming, error logging, and exception management.
  • Conduct TS/SCI software analysis, architecture, engineering, and integration services across unit, module, and system levels.
  • Support all facets of software engineering necessary for system implementation.
  • Comply with open standards and contemporary software development practices, adhering to industry-recognized 'best' practices where operational requirements permit.
  • Generate technical reports, white papers, and other documentation to capture findings from all software engineering activities.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • This role necessitates a minimum of Top Secret clearance with the ability to upgrade to TS/SCI and successfully pass a polygraph examination as required.
  • Proficiency in Java, including Model, Entity, Data Transfer Object (DTO), and Data Access (DAO) patterns.
  • Experience in software design and development within cloud architectures, including container technologies (Docker).
  • Familiarity with Unix-based operating systems, particularly RedHat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience with the Spring framework.
  • Knowledge of JUnit test creation, Remote Debugging (JDWP), and Spring Framework - MapStruct Annotations.
  • Experience with relational databases, such as PostgreSQL and REDIS.
  • Competence in using Linux distributions and command-line navigation.
  • Experience with messaging systems like ActiveMQ and Camel Route.
  • Understanding of web application fundamentals, including HTTP, HTML, REST, WebSocket, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Gerrit/GIT.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ CE certification or progress towards certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language, such as Python or Perl.
  • Experience with web server configuration on platforms like NGINX or Apache.
  • Familiarity with Bootstrap and Less.
  • Understanding of Microservices, Containerization, and Kubernetes using Spring Boot.
  • Experience with AWS as a developer.
  • Familiarity with build and deployment tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
  • Experience collaborating with external developers and integrating their components into larger frameworks.
  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • A background in physics, mathematics, or aerospace is advantageous.
