Position Summary:

The Global Commodity Manager is tasked with the strategic oversight of designated commodities and products on a global scale. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal supplier execution and performance. The manager will implement sourcing strategies aimed at delivering measurable value through streamlined processes and projects that enhance material acquisition efficiency, revenue growth, gross margin enhancement, supply chain alignment, product quality improvement, and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead supplier development initiatives and conduct quarterly business assessments.
  • Articulate and disseminate the commodity strategy across all organizational levels and to suppliers.
  • Formulate and execute strategic plans that demonstrate measurable improvements in total cost of ownership while significantly mitigating risks associated with the supply chain.
  • Track and communicate technology transitions and lifecycle roadmaps relevant to all associated industries.
  • Ensure compliance with all procurement regulations and standards.
  • Assess current and prospective suppliers to enhance service levels and pursue continuous improvement in cost and efficiency.
  • Negotiate Master Supply Agreements to maximize value and focus on achieving high inventory turnover.
  • Streamline the supply chain from suppliers to customers by prioritizing lead time reduction.
  • Participate in or lead cross-functional teams addressing quality, pricing, inventory, and material availability.
  • Conduct supplier and commodity market analysis to monitor trends.
  • Engage in supplier quality audits to ensure adherence to corporate standards.
  • Maintain and update supplier performance scorecards.
  • Act as a super user for SAP within the assigned functional area.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or 8 years of related experience in a similar environment.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Supplier Quality or Management.
  • Willingness to travel 20% to 40% of the time.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA is preferred.
  • Experience in the industrial and consumer combustion engine sectors.
  • Familiarity with industry trends and analyses in automotive, agriculture, marine, transportation, and power generation markets.
  • Background in continuous improvement methodologies, including Six Sigma.
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Proven skills in cost reduction and bidding strategies to maximize value.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers.
  • Comprehensive understanding of purchasing techniques and strategic supplier concepts.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced setting.
  • Knowledge of supplier contracts, product conformity, quality tools, and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Ability to analyze critical market dynamics and assess competitive landscapes.
  • Capacity to identify market and supply risks and develop contingency plans.
  • Track and report material price variations and reconcile with financial teams.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to perform under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems.

Physical Requirements:

This position involves regular communication and the use of hands for manipulation of objects or controls. The employee may be required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, or reach overhead. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be necessary. The role also requires frequent computer-based work, necessitating periods of sitting and close vision.
