Position Overview: The Purchasing Supervisor plays a pivotal role in steering a team focused on enhancing manufacturing productivity and optimizing inventory levels. This position collaborates closely with the corporate Strategic Global Sourcing team to maximize spending efficiency in critical categories and improve the total cost of ownership (TCO). The Purchasing Supervisor is accountable for establishing robust processes that mitigate excess and obsolete inventory, particularly during new product introductions and engineering changes. Success in this role is measured by substantial advancements in purchasing capabilities, delivery performance, working capital, and material margins.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain optimal inventory levels using the Plan for Every Part (PFEP) methodology to enhance fill rates and maximize inventory turnover.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop team members, setting clear expectations to inspire and motivate performance while recognizing achievements and providing constructive feedback.
  • Manage key accounts by overseeing purchase orders, contracts, and requests for quotes (RFQs) to ensure compliance with required terms and conditions.
  • Implement standardized purchasing processes and strategies, including the optimization of procure-to-pay procedures.
  • Support strategic initiatives related to supplier demand forecasting, capacity planning, and inventory management.
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Global Sourcing Department to identify and engage preferred suppliers that align with business and corporate objectives.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues that may hinder material delivery timelines.
  • Engage with suppliers to enhance delivery capabilities and improve supply chain performance metrics.
  • Streamline purchasing operations to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work closely with Planning and Materials teams to meet organizational goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Oversee the requisition of major purchased items and ensure timely processing of parts sourced externally.
  • Act as a Super User for SAP within the assigned functional area.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in purchasing or a related operational role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, JD Edwards, Microsoft Dynamics) and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Formal training in leadership or team development.
  • Familiarity with Lean or Demand Flow principles.

  • CPIM or CSCP certification is a plus.

Physical Requirements: This role requires regular standing, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds unassisted. The work environment is typical of a manufacturing setting, with exposure to varying temperatures and potential manufacturing by-products. Compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements is mandatory.
