OVERVIEW

The IT Senior Associate plays a crucial role in executing advanced professional tasks within technology-focused areas. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities in programming, technical assistance, and communication, tailored to the specific requirements of the Information Technology department. Key duties involve diagnosing, assessing, managing, and resolving intricate projects, allowing for significant autonomy and decision-making.

The ideal candidate will exhibit expertise in one or more technology sectors, demonstrate sound judgment in relevant situations, and act as a knowledgeable resource. Contributions to IT policy formulation and technical standards are also expected.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the CUNY Administrative Systems Manager, the IT Senior Associate will:

  • Oversee and enhance various AWS services to provide effective and scalable solutions for LaGuardia Community College;
  • Assist in formulating a comprehensive disaster recovery strategy, including automated backup systems and failover mechanisms;
  • Develop and review code for web applications, primarily using HTML, XML, or JavaScript;
  • Create and refine secure web pages to meet evolving business requirements and incorporate multimedia elements;
  • Provide ongoing support for multiple web properties;
  • Manage, expand, and optimize the college's web platforms;
  • Maintain effective communication with team members and supervisors regarding website direction and collaborate with web designers to ensure visual design alignment;
  • Develop and script applications;
  • Conduct routine site evaluations and maintenance as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent;
  2. A minimum of ten years of post-secondary experience in a technology-related role, which can be satisfied by one of the following: ten years of full-time experience in a computer or technology position; an Associate's degree with eight years of full-time experience; or a Bachelor's degree with six years of full-time experience;
  3. Proficiency in the English language;
  4. A valid Motor Vehicle Driver's license in New York State may be required for certain positions.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required skills include proficiency in a comprehensive suite of web development tools, specifically:

  • .NET, C#, PHP, JAVA, HTML, CSS, WordPress CMS;
  • Experience with PeopleSoft interfaces, particularly CUNYFirst ERP;
  • API development;
  • e-Commerce knowledge, SEO;
  • SSL and PCI-Compliance coding;
  • Experience in adapting standard pages to responsive design across various platforms and browsers.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Familiarity with JAVAScript, Django, SQL (JQuery, MS-SQL, MySQL);
  • Knowledge of PLONE CMS;
  • Experience with VoIP integration;
  • Familiarity with CUNY-specific applications and services, including:
    • BlackBoard LMS, BrightSpace LMS;
    • DegreeWorks, Raisers Edge, Visual Schedule Builder;
    • Campus Management (Hobson's Connect/Retain), HandShake, Qualtrix Survey, Library EZproxy;
    • Oracle Identity Manager, Shibboleth, LDAP, and MS-OFFICE365.
  • Understanding of SEO practices;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively;
  • Solution-oriented mindset with advanced programming capabilities;
  • Ability to troubleshoot and enhance web pages for security and responsiveness;
  • Understanding of network diagnostics and analytical tools;
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends to apply them to operations.

COMPENSATION

Salary: $91,298

BENEFITS

CUNY provides a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans are also available. Part-time employees must meet specific work hour criteria to qualify for health benefits, which are extended to retirees meeting eligibility requirements.
