OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The IT Senior Associate plays a pivotal role in executing advanced professional tasks within technology sectors. The responsibilities encompass a diverse range of activities in programming, communication, technical assistance, and related functions, tailored to the specific demands of the Information Technology department. Key duties involve diagnosing, assessing, managing, and resolving intricate projects, with considerable autonomy for independent decision-making and leadership roles on complex initiatives.

IT Senior Associates are expected to exhibit expertise in one or more technology domains, demonstrate sound judgment in relevant situations, and act as a resource in these fields. Their input may influence IT policies and technical standards.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

Under the supervision of the CUNY Administrative Systems Manager, the IT Associate will be responsible for:

  • Managing and enhancing various AWS services to provide efficient and scalable solutions for LaGuardia Community College;
  • Assisting in the formulation of a comprehensive disaster recovery strategy, which includes automated backups and failover mechanisms;
  • Writing and reviewing code for web applications, primarily in HTML, XML, or JavaScript;
  • Developing and refining secure web pages to meet evolving business requirements and integrating multimedia elements;
  • Offering ongoing support for multiple web properties;
  • Maintaining, expanding, and scaling the college's websites;
  • Collaborating with team members and supervisors regarding website direction and working with web designers to align with visual design objectives;
  • Creating and scripting applications;
  • Conducting routine site audits and performing maintenance as necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent;
  2. Ten years of relevant experience post-high school, which can be satisfied by one of the following: ten years of full-time employment in a computer or technology-related role; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time experience in a technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time experience in a technology-related role;
  3. Proficiency in the English language;
  4. A valid Motor Vehicle Driver's license in New York State may be required for certain positions.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required skills include proficiency with a comprehensive suite of web development tools, specifically:

  • .NET, C#, PHP, JAVA, HTML, CSS, WordPress CMS;
  • PeopleSoft interfaces, particularly CUNYFirst ERP;
  • API development;
  • e-Commerce experience, SEO;
  • SSL and PCI-Compliance coding;
  • Experience in converting standard pages to responsive design across various platforms and browsers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in JAVAScript, Django, SQL (JQuery, MS-SQL, MySQL);
  • Familiarity with PLONE CMS;
  • VoIP integration experience;
  • Knowledge of CUNY-specific applications and services, including BlackBoard LMS, BrightSpace LMS, DegreeWorks, Raisers Edge, Visual Schedule Builder, Campus Management (Hobson's Connect/Retain), HandShake, Qualtrix Survey, Library EZproxy, Oracle Identity Manager, Shibboleth, LDAP, and MS-OFFICE365;
  • Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) practices;
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively;
  • Solution-oriented mindset with advanced programming skills;
  • Capability to troubleshoot and enhance web pages for security and responsiveness;
  • Understanding of network diagnostics and analytical tools;
  • Awareness of emerging technologies and industry trends, applying them to operations and activities.

COMPENSATION

Salary: $91,298

BENEFITS

CUNY provides a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans.
